I struggle with staying positive. The whole psychological process of making your brain acknowledge that this moment, this hour, this day, this life, has positivity in it refuses to see it.
But, I’m better at it. Despite the, sometimes, crippling anxiety I have learned how to find the “best” and make my brain accept that.
I didn’t get to this point, and I will not move forward, by reading a book. Finding an inspirational Pinterest board, venting to friends, or following a ‘guru’ on social media.
It is all thanks to therapy. Building up my toolbox, finding better tools, sharing the struggle and acting on the advice. Consistently!
Now my friends don’t cringe when they see a message from me. Now when I share how I’m doing I can bring something positive. Now my kiddo sees a parent that goes through more emotions instead of getting sucked into an anxiety cycle. It isn’t lying. It is seeing your circumstances through a broader view and acknowledging everything within it.
I’m not going to be that radically energetic happy person, ever. That isn’t me. But I am working towards harnessing the power and tools to becoming the truest version of my positive self. Which, in turn, teaches my kiddo the same thing so they don’t need to take such a long healing journey. THAT is something, I think, any parent can be proud of.
