Everyone I hadn’t realized how long it had been since I had written a blog post and WOW I have a lot to catch you up on.
But we will get to that in a bit, probably over a few posts. First things first, how are you? If you are in the USA, things are horrible, I know. I am not going to tell you things aren’t and I am not a professional on how to fix them.
For those outside the country who are unaware, many people have lost access to healthcare because premiums (our required monthly payments) have skyrocketed. Mine went from $79 a month to $574. That really doesn’t cover much. I still have a co-pay (what I pay each time I see a doctor) and my medicine has a 40% discount. Everything isn’t covered until I have spent $10,000 (in a single year). If we cannot afford this, then we pay the market price for healthcare which is usually thousands of dollars depending on how sick you are. If we can’t afford it, we take out loans if we can, and if not we just hope we can get better without care.
So, hell.
There is hope though! Guess what I found? Direct Primary Care. So these are groups of doctors who operate outside of regular insurance companies. You pay them a monthly fee and you get to see them X many times a year with other perks!! One of the ones close to me is $80 a month and I get: An annual exam, same day or next day sick visit, no co-pays, most in office tests are completely covered, and a few more things.
GO. CHECK. IT. OUT!!!
Also, the mental health for all those living in the USA is so much worse (which is saying something). Here are some numbers that could help you:
1-866-488-7386 (for LGBTQ youth)
9-8-8 (Suicide, Veterans, and Crisis)
If you have mental health coverage, go. Take a few sessions. You may not even know you’re in crisis. You may be used to being in survival mode. You shouldn’t always be there and if you have the means, please get help.
Prescriptions! (Almost forgot those)
If you or someone you know needs discounts, GoodRx is a good place to start but this website also has 15 other options. If you know of any other plans, please list them in the comments.
Little side note, if you have anxiety or depression try the medicine. My quality of life SKYROCKETED once I found the best one for me. It took some time, but I do not regret it at all. Plus its generic and costs about $10 a month.
If you need this space to vent, yell into the void, or whatever, use the comments. Just be kind to yourself and others, okay?
